With filming on Aquaman 2 expected to kick off next month, star Amber Heard starts her quarantine and receives a sweet note from director James Wan.

Director James Wan welcomes Amber Heard back to the DCEU ahead of the start of filming for Aquaman 2. Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry took center stage in 2018’s Aquaman, a deep sea adventure that saw Arthur accept his role as king of Atlantis. A bona fide hit at the box office, the film soon paved way for a sequel, though that has been slower than expected to arrive. Aquaman 2 is currently scheduled for release in December 2022. Both Momoa and Wan, who directed the first film, will be back for this one, along with several other familiar faces.

Though plot details are still being kept under wraps, Aquaman 2 recently received the official title of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Those returning from the first movie include Heard as Princess Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. In the case of Heard, her Aquaman 2 role comes after rumors of her firing emerged online. Despite some fans calling for her removal amid her legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp, the actress remains attached to the DCEU and the role of Mera.

Over the weekend, Heard shared a picture of a message she received from Wan. With the post, Heard confirmed she’s in quarantine ahead of production beginning on Aquaman 2.Amber, welcome back to Atlantis,” Wan wrote in his note, which arrived on some very fancy stationary. You can see Heard’s full post down below.

Assuming Heard’s quarantine will last as long as the standard length that has arose during the pandemic, filming won’t kick off for another two weeks at least. This falls in line with what Momoa said recently, that Aquaman 2 will begin production in July. The start of filming can perhaps provide new details about what to expect from the DCEU film; right now, very little has been revealed about the story. Based on the title, though, one can theorize that Aquaman 2 will explore some of the underwater worlds touched upon in the first movie.

Heard has posted a lot about her Aquaman 2 prep work, from sharing throwback pictures from the first film to pulling back the curtain on her training. She’s left no doubt that she will be starring in Aquaman 2 alongside Momoa, and it’s clear she’s quite excited to get started. Based on how much she’s been sharing of the pre-production process, Heard just might treat fans to some fun BTS looks once filming actually begins. It should only be a few weeks to go now, so stay tuned for future updates on Aquaman 2.
