MCA launches committee to monitor Pakatan govt’s performance – Nation – The Star Online

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has launched a government monitoring committee to keep tabs on the Pakatan Harapan government’s performance.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) said MCA appointed 300 members with professional qualifications to the committee on Saturday (June 8).

At a press conference to launching the committee on Sunday (June 9) Dr Wee said committee members would serve in nine different units, covering law, economics, environment and other fields as well as ministries.

“We have identified and laid out the work scope for each unit so that they can monitor each ministry in a more comprehensive way,” he said, adding that committee members are encouraged to work with NGOs.

Dr Wee said that this was to make the Opposition party more progressive and effective, based on facts and research.

He was also critical of the appointment of Latheefa Koya as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief.

“They (Pakatan) said they want to reform the Parliament. They can’t follow a simple thing such as adhering to the Parliamentary Select Committee procedures. So what can you expect out of it?” he asked.

Asked if Datuk Seri Najib Razak had ever discussed with MCA appointments to the top MACC position, Dr Wee said that the former prime minister did not make any promises – but Pakatan had broken theirs.

He said that any party could promise reforms, Dr Wee said.

“But after getting votes from the people, he (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) says, ‘I’ll do it my way.’ This is his favourite song,” Dr Wee said.

The appointment drew criticisms from many parties, with the Malaysian Bar and Bersih 2.0 questioning the process of the appointment, saying that it did not go through a PAC as promised in Pakatan’s GE14 manifesto.
