Italy U21: Di Biagio to resign

Luigi Di Biagio is expected to hold a Press conference on Tuesday to announce his resignation as CT of Italy’s Under-21 team.

Italy failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championship, despite being many people’s tip to win the competition.

According to Rai Sport and Tuttomercatoweb, Di Biagio will speak at a Press conference tomorrow morning, where he will confirm his exit.

The former Roma and Inter midfielder played 31 times for the Azzurri between 1998 and 2002, representing them at two World Cups and a European Championship.

He began working for the FIGC in 2011, first as Coach of the Under-20 side, before being promoted to U21 boss two years later.

However, his reign has been characterised by underperformance, as seen by La Nazionale’s two group-stage exits at the U21 Euros and failure to qualify for as many Olympic Games.

He also acted as a caretaker for the senior team last year, drawing and losing his two games in charge.
