Eugene to host 2028 U.S. Olympic track and field trials

The U.S. Olympic track and field trials are headed back to Track Town, USA. USA Track and Field announced on Monday, Aug. 17, that the 2028 U.S.

Olympic track and field trials will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene from June 17-22, 2028. The competition will serve as the qualifier for track and field athletes to earn a spot on Team USA for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The 2028 edition will mark the sixth consecutive time Eugene’s hosted the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. The city has selected every U.S.

Olympic track and field team since 2008. In addition, Hayward Field has also been the venue for the U.S. track and field outdoor championships 10 times. “TrackTown USA and Eugene’s record of success in selecting America’s best track and field athletes speaks for itself in the 52 Olympic gold medals U.S.

athletes have won since 2008,” USA Track and Field CEO Max Siegel said in a statement. “There is no doubt these Trials will produce a team that is built for LA.”

The 2028 track and field Olympic trials is scheduled to be a six-day event, down from eight days in previous editions. According to USA Track and Field, the revised format was established in consultation with athletes who expressed interest in a more efficient selection process, particularly with the trials taking place less than a month before the Los Angeles Olympics. The opening ceremony for the Los Angeles Games is on July 14, 2028.

“TrackTown USA is honored to welcome back the nation’s best athletes, coaches, and fans to Hayward Field at The University of Oregon for the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field,” TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly said in a statement. “Our community looks forward to hosting an amazing celebration of the sport and the world’s No. 1 team.”
