Coventry City have reportedly agreed to spend £6m on Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock. The Sky Blues started their first Premier League campaign in 25 years with a 3-0 defeat to champions Arsenal .
Regardless of that result, Frank Lampard already had plans to try to strengthen his first-team squad, preferably with Premier League experience. Of their eight senior additions thus far, only three of them – Daniel Bentley, Gustavo Hamer and Taiwo Awoniyi – have previously played in England’s top flight. Coventry to pay £6m for Pinnock The report alleges that Coventry are ready to pay £5m, plus a further £1m in add-ons, for the 33-year-old. Brentford are said to have given Pinnock permission to undergo a medical with Coventry.
Furthermore, the Midlands outfit are happy to hand the veteran centre-back a contract until 2029, with the option of an extra 12 months. Pinnock is a Brentford legend having spent the last seven seasons at the West London outfit. Will Pinnock be first choice for Coventry? Despite his status at Brentford, Pinnock featured on just four occasions in last season’s Premier League.

He was an unused substitute on 32 occasions, while his only top-flight appearance of 2026 came in a goalless draw versus Leeds United on March 21. Regardless of that lack of game time, Lampard may view Pinnock as a necessary pick in the middle of his backline. Having featured in friendlies against Rennes and Eintracht Frankfurt since August 8, he will go straight into contention for Saturday’s home fixture against Hull City.
