Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has reportedly rejected the club’s latest contract offer worth €22 million net per season until 2031, with negotiations entering a crucial phase as both parties attempt to avoid a high-profile split.
According to reports in Spain, Vinicius is seeking a salary of around €30 million net annually, while Real Madrid have so far refused to meet those demands, preferring to maintain the club’s long-standing wage structure. Real Madrid’s latest proposal would have made Vinicius one of the club’s highest-paid players, but it fell short of the 26-year-old’s expectations. The club is also understood to have explored increasing Vinicius’ image rights as part of the package rather than significantly raising his fixed salary, allowing it to remain within its existing wage policy. Despite the uncertainty, head coach Jose Mourinho is believed to have made it clear that Vinicius remains central to his long-term plans. Following the FIFA World Cup, Mourinho reportedly reiterated his faith in the Brazilian winger, with the relationship between the pair described as positive.
Vinicius has also spoken favourably about Madrid’s pre-season preparations under the Portuguese manager. The contract dispute has inevitably drawn comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo’s final years at Real Madrid. According to Spanish journalist Tomas Roncero, Ronaldo earned €22 million net under his last contract at the club, which is the same figure Vinicius has now rejected. Before leaving Madrid in 2018, Ronaldo had reportedly sought a salary of around €30 million per season, while the club remained unwilling to exceed its financial structure.
