Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Canada and the US from August 25 to September 2, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday. The visit will focus on strengthening bilateral economic and financial ties, deepening investment linkages and advancing cooperation on shared global economic priorities. In Toronto, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, Francois-Philippe Champagne. The talks will cover macroeconomic developments, financial sector cooperation, bilateral investment opportunities and shared international priorities.
The two sides will also discuss opportunities in energy, critical minerals, technology, innovation and resilient supply chains, along with ongoing efforts towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). During her Toronto visit, Sitharaman will attend an Investment Roundtable with executives from the energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals sectors. She will also participate in a Business Roundtable with senior leaders and top executives of Indian Public Sector Banks to explore financial sector opportunities and avenues in GIFT City-IFSC. She will further join a fireside conversation hosted by the Canadian Club of Toronto and the Canada-India Business Council, hold one-to-one corporate meetings and interact with the Indian diaspora. The US leg of the visit will cover Chicago, Asheville and New York from August 28 to September 2. In Chicago, Sitharaman will hold an investor roundtable, meet corporate leaders, visit the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago and meet local community members. From August 31 to September 1, she will lead India’s delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, being held under the US Presidency of the G20.
The ministry said India’s participation in the G20 Finance Track will provide an opportunity to contribute to discussions on global economic growth and stability, international financial cooperation and issues important to emerging and advanced economies. Sitharaman will conclude the tour in New York, where she will hold investor meetings and attend a bell-ringing ceremony at NASDAQ to examine developments in financial market platforms.
