Red Sox vs. Yankees score Red Sox vs. Yankees updates How to watch Red Sox vs. Yankees MLB playoff schedule The intensity of postseason baseball ramps up on Wednesday night. Already, there may be no better playoff matchup than Red Sox vs.

Yankees, one of the most famous rivalries in sports history. But after opening the AL Wild Card Series on Tuesday, Game 2 is now an elimination matchup. Everything is on the line. After leading the American League in wins this season, Sonny Gray gets the ball for Boston on Wednesday night, while star left-hander Max Fried takes the mound for New York. With the Yankees looking to close out the series thanks to Cam Schlittler’s dominance in Game 1, and the Red Sox looking to force a Game 3 in the Bronx, the stakes have been raised. The Sporting News is tracking live updates, highlights and more from Wednesday’s Game 2 between the Yankees and Red Sox. Follow along with the action from the AL Wild Card series below.

Red Sox vs. Yankees score Red Sox vs. Yankees live updates, highlights from AL Wild Card Game 2 All times ET.

10:09 p.m. — Grisham reaches on a bunt hit. The bases are loaded for Austin Wells.

10:08 p.m. — The Yankees are looking to break it open. Chisholm singles to put two runners on with nobody out for Grisham.

Boston is keeping Crochet on the mound, for now. Yankees 3, Red Sox 1 10:06 p.m. RBI SINGLE — George Lombard Jr. gets the run right back for the Yankees! He brings home Spencer Jones, who singled, then reached third on a stolen base and throwing error. New York’s 21-year-old rising star comes through on the postseason stage. — MLB (@MLB) October 1, 2026 10:00 p.m.

— In comes Garrett Crochet for the Red Sox. The star left-hander will be making a relief appearance with Boston needing a win. Yankees 2, Red Sox 1 9:56 p.m. SOLO HOME RUN — Willson Contreras puts the Red Sox on the board! Boston pulls within a run as Contreras’ shot to right-center barely gets over the wall; a fan caught it, leading to a review on whether home run was the right call, but camera angles clearly show the ball would’ve, at the least, hit the top of the wall. Boston is alive, as Fried allows his first run, though the Red Sox threat ends there. — MLB (@MLB) October 1, 2026 9:54 p.m.

— Jazz Chisholm Jr. picks up the second out of the top of the sixth with a smooth over-the-shoulder grab. End of fifth inning: Yankees 2, Red Sox 0 9:47 p.m. — What a play by Nate Eaton to end the threat! For a moment, Garcia looked like he would be bringing another Yankees run home, sending a single into left field.

But the Red Sox outfielder made a strong throw home to nab Rice well in time, the third out of the inning as Boston keeps it to just one more run in the bottom of the fifth. The Red Sox will need their bats to get going, but the game remains within reach. Nate Eaton cuts down Ben Rice at the plate to limit the damage #Postseason pic.twitter.com/PDqg2mDLEz

— MLB (@MLB) October 1, 2026 Yankees 2, Red Sox 0 9:45 p.m. RBI SINGLE — Bellinger comes through, bringing a huge second run home for the Yankees. He pokes a single into right field to continue the rally. — MLB (@MLB) October 1, 2026 9:42 p.m.

— Can the Yankees add on? Sonny Gray’s night is over, as he allows hits to Grisham and Ben Rice to put runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. As Bellinger comes to the plate, Chad Tracy goes to his bullpen. Erik Miller will come in for a lefty-on-lefty matchup.

9:36 p.m. — Another clean frame for Fried. Through 80 pitches, he’s struck out six Boston hitters, allowing two hits and no runs. New York may need some insurance, but Aaron Boone has gotten as great of a start from his pitcher as possible so far. End of fourth inning: Yankees 1, Red Sox 0 9:25 p.m. — A Spencer Jones single made it appear things may unravel for Gray, but Boston’s defense steps up to end the inning.

Chisholm Jr. grounds into a double play to keep it a one-run game. Yankees 1, Red Sox 0 9:21 p.m. SOLO HOME RUN — Luis Garcia Jr. breaks the drought! The Yankees finally strike first, as their trade deadline acquisition swats one over the porch in right field to make it 1-0. Fried will have a lead to work with, and the Red Sox now face a deficit with their backs against the wall.

— MLB (@MLB) October 1, 2026 9:17 p.m.

— Fried continues his strong night, and through 4.5 innings, the Yankees and Red Sox have combined for four hits and no runs. With four strikeouts and 65 pitches, New York will likely be able to take Fried deeper into this game. 9:10 p.m. — Fried walks Contreras to open the top of the fourth, a baserunner for Boston as they look to get to the star left-hander. End of third inning: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 9:07 p.m.

— Three scoreless innings in the Bronx. Gray gets Bellinger to ground out, leaving it at 0-0 as the two starters have been cruising. 9:04 p.m.

— Ryan McMahon reaches on an infield single. Can the Yankees break the stalemate? 8:55 p.m. — Nate Eaton, starting in left field for the Red Sox in Anthony’s absence, brings some energy with a run-it-out double that puts a runner in scoring position for Boston. However, the threat doesn’t last long; Fried, on his second turn through the order, picks up a third strikeout and gets Rutschman to ground out. End of second inning: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 8:44 p.m. — Jazz Chisholm Jr.

looked to start a two-out rally for New York, reaching on an infield hit, but Trent Grisham flies out to end the threat. Like Game 1, the starters are cruising early tonight. Will Fried or Gray break first? 8:35 p.m. — It’s an excellent start for Fried, who also goes 1-2-3 against the Red Sox in the top of the second.

Boston’s offense, without Roman Anthony, hasn’t had any answers yet. End of first inning: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 8:33 p.m. — The Yankees go down in order.

Gray strikes out Ben Rice, then retires Cody Bellinger and Luis Garcia Jr. for a scoreless first inning in the Bronx.

8:25 p.m. — Willson Contreras got a hit, but that was all Boston could get against Fried in the top of the first. The Yankees will look to strike against Sonny Gray. 8:22 p.m.

— Adley Rutschman almost gave the Red Sox a great start, but his deep fly ball into left field was barely short of the foul pole. Instead, Fried has two punchouts already. 8:18 p.m. — One batter, one strikeout. Fried sends Jahmai Jones back to the dugout to open Game 2. Pregame 8:15 p.m.

— Max Fried is ready. He settles in on the mound, and Game 2 is about to begin. 6:50 p.m. — Here’s a look at Aaron Boone’s lineup for Game 2, with Max Fried on the mound:

— New York Yankees (@Yankees) September 30, 2026 6:44 p.m. — According to Red Sox manager Chad Tracy, Anthony has damage to muscles in his wrist that is different than the finger injury he previously suffered. He went back to Boston on Tuesday night for imaging.

“I feel sick to my stomach,” Anthony told reporters on Wednesday. “It doesn’t feel real to be honest.”

Due to Anthony’s injury, Boston received approval from MLB to replace him with Curtis Mead on its Wild Card roster. Mead, a trade acquisition at the deadline, is making a return from injury after only appearing in one regular season game for the Red Sox. — NESN (@NESN) September 30, 2026 6:40 p.m. — Boston’s Game 2 lineup confirmed that young star Roman Anthony officially will not be active after re-injuring his hand in Game 1. Jahmai Jones will lead off for the Red Sox, while Nate Eaton is in left field.
