India batter Rajat Patidar has been appointed captain of Central Zone for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which will be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from August 23 to September 10. Off-spinner Saransh Jain has also been included in the squad, although he is expected to miss at least the early part of the domestic season opener as he is part of India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour. Jain is being considered for a possible Test debut at Galle after off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out of the first Test. India’s first Test against Sri Lanka begins on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, while the second Test is scheduled to start in Colombo from August 23.
