Patrick Cantlay, Gary Woodland jump in new Official World Golf Ranking

Scottie Scheffler holds the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking for the week of August 25, 2026. The rankings are calculated based on points awarded to players over a rolling two-year period. Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Wyndham Clark complete the top five golfers in the world. Points are awarded from numerous eligible tours and major tournaments worldwide. The Official World Golf Ranking has been updated for the week of August 25, 2026, with Scottie Scheffler firmly entrenched as the planet’s best player.

By virtue of a second-place finish at the BMW Championship, Patrick Cantlay popped up a dozen spots in the new ranking, jumping from No. 38 to No.

26. Also, Gary Woodland has moved up into No. 42 after a T-4 finish at Bellarive Country Club. Meanwhile, Tommy Fleetwood dropped two important spots, falling down from No. 5 to No. 7.

The OWGR system is calculated by awarding points from eligible tours and events to participating players over a rolling two-year period. Players are ranked weekly based on the amount of points they earn divided by the number of events they played in to reach an average total.
