The shot-stopper had already missed the last few weeks of the Serie A season so he could return home and the situation has not improved.
A friend of the family posted an image on social media confirming that his father, Hernan Ospina, has died.
The Colombian Federation released a statement confirming Ospina has temporarily left the training camp in Brazil due to a family issue.
They remain confident he will return for the rest of the tournament, as Colombia have already qualified for the Round of 16.
