With training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars getting closer, which players should be on our radars as these practices and preseason games unfold? As part of our training camp preview, we’ll be highlighting one player from each position group to keep your eyes on. In some instances, it may be one of the Jaguars’ top players that we’ll be watching closely, or it could be a player fighting for playing time or a roster spot. Up next are the wide receivers. Can Brian Thomas Jr.
build off his strong showing during offseason programs? In Year 2, Thomas’ production dipped after a very impressive rookie season. But throughout OTAs and minicamp, he was one of the Jaguars’ standout performers. ESPN’s Michael DiRocco called Thomas Jr. the “most impressive offensive player” during offseason programs, with he and Trevor Lawrence routinely connecting on downfield throws.
Thomas and Trevor Lawrence building their chemistry has been a focal point this offseason and appears to be much improved. SI’s Albert Breer also noted that Thomas Jr. has been fully healthy, which of course, is important.
With the addition of Jakobi Meyers last season, Thomas was freed up to be utilized more on vertical routes, with Meyers handling the intermediate and over-the-middle routes. From the jump this year, Thomas will presumably see a relatively heavy dose of downfield opportunities in 2026. In the Liam Coen offense, the Jaguars may not have a true WR1, with the opponents and in-game situations largely dictating where the ball goes. That said, a bounce-back year from Thomas can have a profound impact on this offense.
Not only does that mean more explosive plays, but with the attention that he draws from opposing defenders, that will help create opportunities for others within the Jacksonville offense.
