HMD Global just keeps on rolling out new smartphones. The latest from the Espoo, Finland-based company come in the form of the Nokia 3.1 A and the Nokia 3.1 C with the former headed to AT&T and the latter to Cricket.

HMD Global continues to pump out new smartphones. The Nokia licensee is targeting the entry-level US market with its new Nokia 3.1 A and Nokia 3.1 C which are headed to AT&T and Cricket, respectively. Both handsets are identical except for carrier-specific branding but are not to be confused with the regular Nokia 3.1, which uses different components.

The devices center on a 5.45-inch 720p IPS LCD 18:9 display and are powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 paired with 2GB of RAM. Storage is a reasonable 32GB and can be expanded with a microSD card. The polycarbonate shell is a little chunky at 9.35mm but has the advantage of not being painted with the color embedded in the plastic meaning that marks or scratches won’t be obvious.

Unfortunately, as both the Nokia 3.1 A and 3.1 C have been carrier-customized, they are not officially part of the Android One program. Nokia, however, promises regular updates and patches over an 18-month period. The Nokia 3.1 A goes on sale in select Walmart stores on June 10 in black while the Nokia 3.1 C will be available through Cricket from June 14 in white. Pricing will be available on launch but expect them to be eminently affordable.

I have been tech-obsessed from the time my father introduced me to my first computer, an Apple ][. Since then, I have grown to enjoy exploring and experimenting with any computing platform that I can get my hands on – I am the definitive early adopter! I have always been interested in how we can use technology to shape and improve our lives, most recently using it to record, mix and master my debut record, Acuity – Nature | Nurture out now on Spotify.
