The 2013-14 college football season was a special one for Michigan State football. In full transparency, I was a student at MSU at the time. It was the year the team won the Big Ten championship over Ohio State and won the Rose Bowl.
One thing I can tell you about that year on campus is that everywhere you went, “Type of Way” by Rich Homie Quan was playing. The song became the unofficial theme song of the Spartans that season, and it seems the team is ready to bring it back based on a tease we received on Thursday night. The song was famously played in the locker room after every win that season, of which there were 13, and the Spartans flew Rich Homie Quan to their Rose Bowl game against Stanford. Tragically, Rich Homie Quan died at the age of 34 in 2024. It would go a long way for Michigan State fans to bring this song back under the new regime, and if the video teaser below is any indication, you can expect to hear that song on Friday:
It should be noted that new Michigan State defensive coordinator Max Bullough was part of the Rose Bowl winning team that was associated with the song, although he was famously suspended for the Rose Bowl game.
