Sri Lanka: 74-3 (17 overs)
Very consistent from Mark Wood here, who is giving Mendis and Matthews no margin for error with his line bang on the off-stump.
Only two from the over.
Short pause after the 16th over here as the players stop for drinks.
I’m off to get a coffee…
Sri Lanka: 72-3 (16 overs)
And Matthews is finally off the mark with a quick single leg-side off the final ball of that over.
Sri Lanka: 71-3 (15.3 overs)
A lovely four through the off-side from Mendis to start Stokes’ third over, and then a run-out opportunity squandered by Woakes at the striker’s end.
Needed a direct-hit, wasn’t accurate enough.
Sri Lanka: 66-3 (15 overs)
Matthews is struggling here, still on 0 off 10 balls.
Wood bowled a beauty in that over, which narrowly missed the outside-edge.
Sri Lanka: 63-3 (14 overs) Mendis 10 (25), Matthews 0 (6)
A Mendis single, and Matthews yet to get off the mark as five dot balls follow.
Strong start from Ben Stokes.
Sri Lanka: 62-3 (13 overs)
The batsmen crossed, and Mendis fends off a full toss to end the over.
Angelo Matthews is now at the crease, coming in at number five.
WICKET! Sri Lanka: 62-3. Fernando, c Rashid b Wood, 49 (12.5 overs)
Oh no, Fernando what are you doing!
On 49, the no.3 hits the ball, open-face, straight into the hands of third man Adil Rashid – Fernando looks as bemused as everyone else with the shot he has just played!
Shake of heads on the Sri Lankan balcony too…
Fernando goes for 49 off 39 balls.
Sri Lanka: 59-2 (12 overs)
Decent start from Stokes – only three singles from that over.
Fernando is on 47…
Ben Stokes comes in to replace Jofra Archer.
Sri Lanka: 56-2 (11 overs)
Mixed bag from Wood in his first over.
Three singles, a wide down leg side, and then a four clipped off the edge of the bat from Fernando, who is four away now from a half-century.
End of the first powerplay, and Mark Wood is in to replace Chris Woakes.
Sri Lanka: 48-2 (10 overs) Fernando 41, Mendis 4
Once again, Mendis picks up a single while Fernando waits till the end of the over to punish Archer…
Ball four: 4, leg side pull!
Ball five: 6, leg side pull! Stunning shot, 89m!
A pause after that six as the umpires try to find a new cricket ball…
Ball six: Archer bowls a good yorker, dot ball.
Sri Lanka: 37-2 (9 overs)
Three dot balls to end Woakes’ fifth over…
Sri Lanka: 37-2 (8.3 overs)
Different story with Fernando on strike though.
Two, followed by another four, this time a pull leg side into the gap. He’s on 31 from 25 balls…
Sri Lanka: 31-2 (8 overs)
A maiden for Jofra Archer, with Kusal Mendis opting to defend the straight ball throughout that over.
Good response from Archer.
First World Cup match at Headingley today…
Sri Lanka: 31-2 (7 overs)
There’s a pattern forming here: Mendis single, Fernando boundary.
This time, Fernando hits an exquisite drive down the ground, past Archer at mid-on, for four.
Sri Lanka: 26-2 (6.3 overs)
Mendis takes a quick single, but then the ball deceives Fernando and he edges it fortuitously down to third man.
Sri Lanka: 24-2 (6 overs)
And we have our first six of the match!
On his back foot again, Fernando pulls a short ball over fine leg and into the stands!
He then nails another cover drive to the boundary to finish off the over, 14 from it! Archer won’t be happy with that.
And suddenly, Fernando has 20 runs to his name..
