Two of America’s largest arms manufacturers are set to merge in a deal expected to reshape the global defence industry.

United Technologies Corporation is poised to combine its aerospace business with Raytheon in a merger that would create a giant with a market value of more than $100 billion. The alliance could be unveiled as soon as today, according to reports.

The new entity would be bigger than Boeing, the world’s second largest aerospace and defence company by sales, which had an annual revenue of more than $70 billion last year. It would be the largest supplier of equipment to the US military after Lockheed Martin.
