From the coaching staff to the new roster additions, the Dallas Cowboys have made quite a few changes over the course of the offseason and may not be done. They can still add talent via trade, roster cuts, or even sign a free agent still available on the open market. It wouldn’t be all that surprising that they used one or all three of these avenues to continue to upgrade the roster. Today, we look at which veteran players are still available on the open market who could potentially be of interest to the Cowboys based on their current roster “needs”. Any one of these veterans could join the Cowboys in Oxnard, California training camp, which kicks off in about a week’s time.
OLB Von Miller
Seeing Von Miller on this list should come as no surprise. He just recently stated he’d like to play for the Cowboys and the interest could be mutual. His days as an every down starter are probably behind him at his age, but he can still make a big difference as a mentor and in a backup role as well. Just last season with the Commanders he managed to log nine QB sacks, six tackles for loss, and 19 pressures playing just 37% of the defensive snaps, proving he has enough gas left in the tank to provide a boost as a part-time player. Bobby Wagner is another familiar name to make the list.
The 36-year-old just finished his 14th season with 100+ tackles, starting all 17 games in 2025. He accumulated 162 tackles, 4.5 QB sacks, eight tackles for loss, and two interceptions last season with the Commanders. Wagner may not be the player he once was, but he’s still highly consistent/productive, both traits that would help upgrade Dallas’ current LB position.

After back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans, Joe Mixon missed the entire 2025 season with the mysterious foot injury. The soon to be 30-year-old (July 24) two-time Pro Bowl RB is one of the better do-it-all backs in the league when healthy. His addition would give the Cowboys another starting-caliber RB to pair with Javonte Williams, something they currently don’t have on the roster. Throw second-year RB Jaydon Blue in the mix and Dallas would have an impressive trio to rotate this year.
LT Taylor Decker
Taylor Decker was granted his release from the Detroit Lions after refusing to take a pay cut and is still available on the open market. The 33-year-old graded out as the 41st overall offensive tackle last year by Pro Football Focus, allowing 33 total QB pressures and two sacks. Decker may be just an average to slightly above average LT in the league, but with consistency/injury concerns to both Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas, he could challenge to be a starter. Christian Wilkins hasn’t played a single snap in the NFL since 2024 when he was limited to just five games after sustaining a foot injury. There’s also some locker room controversy that ultimately led to his release from the Raiders that could be a red flag as well. That could mean he doesn’t quite fit the culture Brian Schottenheimer is trying to establish in Dallas. But, as a risk/reward player he could be worth the gamble.
