ATLANTA ― The 2026 World Cup semifinals should be absolute cinema for everyone tuning in. Harry Kane and England face Lionel Messi and Argentina in the second of two semifinal matches on Wednesday, July 15, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. England cruised through the group stage without dropping a match, and a pair of late goals from Kane helped the Three Lions beat DR Congo during the round of 32.

Kane and Jude Bellingham helped England outlast Mexico in the round of 16 before taking down Norway in Miami during a July 11 quarterfinal match that wasn’t without controversy. Now, England hopes to continue its winning streak to take home the team’s first World Cup title in 60 years.

Like England, Argentina blew through the group stage. However, Cape Verde nearly took the White and Sky Blue to the brink of elimination during a round of 32 classic.

Argentina also needed some World Cup magic to escape Egypt in the round of 16 after the Pharaohs had the team on the ropes. Now, Argentina hopes to move past England after pulling away late in its quarterfinal match against Switzerland.

Wednesday’s matchup in Atlanta won’t be the first time England and Argentina have faced each other in the World Cup. England leads their head-to-head history with three wins over five games, including a 1-0 quarterfinal win in 1966. The Three Lions later won their first World Cup. Argentina has two tournament victories over England, a 1986 quarterfinal win and a dramatic 1998 2-2 draw, which it won on penalty kicks. When is England vs Argentina World Cup match?
