Follow for the latest updates. US President Donald Trump insisted that negotiations with Iran are already underway, even as Tehran continues to deny holding direct talks with Washington. Trump told reporters it remains Iran’s final opportunity to avoid renewed military action, saying, “They are going on right now… This is a last chance for them to sign a good document.”
Trump’s remarks came a day after he said he had called off a planned major strike on Iran to give diplomacy another chance.
Iran, however, maintains there are no direct talks with the US and that saying discussions are limited to Oman over maritime arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz. Adding to tensions, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said a cargo vessel reported being struck by an unknown projectile about 20 nautical miles (37 km) northeast of Khasab, Oman.
