U21 Euro: Italy qualify if…

Italy must wait and see if they are the best runners-up to qualify for the European U21 Championship semi-finals, but the chances are slim.

The Azzurrini finished second in Group A with six points and a goal difference of +3.

Spain and Poland also had six points, so that order was decided by goal difference in their three-way record, putting La Rojita on top.

Now Gigi Di Biagio’s men must wait and see how the other Groups conclude before seeing if they make it into the semi-finals.

The big worry is Group C, because if France-Romania ends in a draw, both teams go through with seven points.

There are several options to send Italy through to the final four of the tournament they are hosting.

Romania beat France

Or

France beat Romania by at least three clear goals

And

Denmark beat Serbia by at no more than two clear goals

France beat Romania by at least three clear goals

Italy are out if…

Austria beat Germany

OR

Denmark beat Serbia by at least three clear goals

France-Romania ends in a draw

France beat Romania by a maximum of two clear goals
