09.45 UPDATE: Rooney on Manchester United transfers

Wayne Rooney has told Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to build his squad around hungry youngsters rather than global superstars.

“The first thing Ole has got to do is try and build the squad,” Rooney told BBC 5 Live.

“I don’t think bringing one or two players in for over £100 million is going to help the squad and the players who are there.

“He needs to try and look at maybe five or six players who have got potential to be top players – but you’re not spending £120, £130million on them.

“You spend £30-40m and try to improve them, which will give you longevity out of the players and allow you to build a squad around the five or six that come in.

“You could bring Ronaldo, Ramos and Messi in, or Bale for instance, and it’s going to cost you £300, £350million, for which you’d get what? Maybe two years out of Ronaldo, a couple of years out of Ramos, and then you’ve written that money off.”

09.00 UDPATE: Lennon on transfers

Neil Lennon has been speaking about his transfer strategy for the summer.

He told the Celtic View: “The thought of bringing in players, being in control of the squad is exciting.

“It’s also a challenge, and one that I’m really looking forward to. I don’t think we need to change things too much.

“I’d like us to be a little more forward-thinking in terms of our build-up play at times.

“I’d like to get some more players in who will get us off our seats. That’s what the public demand.”

Cristiano Ronaldo asked Matthijs de Ligt to join Juventus this summer.

“He asked me to come to Juventus,” De Ligt told NOS when asked what the conversation was about following the Nations League final.

“I was a little shocked by that question, that’s why I laughed. I didn’t understand him at first.

“Just after the game you just feel bad that you’ve lost, that’s all you’re thinking about.”

07.15 UPDATE Arsenal in talks with PSG

Arsenal have held talks with PSG right-back Thomas Meunier, according to Kristof Terreur.

“[Meunier] knows that he has one year left on his deal and has not been offered a new one at PSG, so yes he will leave probably,” he told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.

“His agent has been pushing around and preparing everything for a move.

“Unai Emery has been in touch with him a few times because a right-back is a priority at Arsenal.”

07.00 UPDATE Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson double deal

Leeds have made a move to land both Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson in a double Liverpool deal.

Both players impressed on loan – at Rangers and Derby – last season and Leeds want them to help their promotion push, according to Football Insider.

Leeds lost in the playoff semi-finals to Derby and have agreed to keep Marcelo Bielsa next season.

And now they’re looking to bolster their playing squad ahead of another push.
