There’s no bigger storyline within the Pittsburgh Steelers right now than Joey Porter Jr.’s contract situation, and Jalen Ramsey just made his stance on the drama clear. Speaking with reporters on Monday, Ramsey didn’t mince words when discussing the Steelers-Porter contract negotiations: his teammate deserves to get paid what he’s worth. “We need the whole secondary out there,” Ramsey told the media. “They got to pay Joey Porter.
… I’m overly in Joey’s corner. Joey needs to get compensated for being a valuable part of this secondary and a viable part of this defense.”
Porter, who saw the NFL cornerback market explode over the past month, was placed on the physically unable to perform list to begin training camp with a back injury. Ramsey was just activated off the PUP list, but there’s no word on whether the Steelers plan to do the same with Porter anytime soon. The Steelers have been generously handing out huge extensions to seemingly everyone not named Joey Porter Jr.
But it’s clear that Ramsey has seen enough of the back-and-forth and just wants the young cornerback to receive his payday. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, including any preseason news and injury updates, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like.
