New US enforcement rules could expose foreign manufacturers and others in the supply chain to criminal charges over false customs filings, raising compliance risks for Indian exporters. The United States (U.S.) Department of Justice’s Trade Fraud Task Force has surpassed $1 billion in recoveries, penalties, forfeitures, and charged losses since its launch in August 2025. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has assessed a further $2.1 billion in commercial trade penalties this fiscal year.
