New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye acknowledged that he was guilty of “decisions that cost us the game on my part” after he tossed three costly interceptions in the fourth quarter of what became a 13-10 season -opening loss for New England at the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night. Others associated with the Patriots had Maye’s back while speaking with reporters following the defeat.
Patriots loss to Seahawks “not on one person at all” “It’s not on one person at all,” Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson said about the team’s loss in Seattle, per the Patriots’ website.
“This is a team game. We win together, and we lose together. I wouldn’t pinpoint [the loss] on one single person in that room. We all have to get better. Back to the drawing board, like I said, and figure it out.”
In total, Maye went 23-of-33 passing for 178 yards with one touchdown against the Seahawks.
He also rushed for 47 yards on seven carries, but the three picks understandably made for the biggest talking points during Thursday morning sports programs.
“I got the utmost confidence in that guy,” Stevenson added about Maye, according to Mark Daniels of MassLive. “He’s going to get better. I know it. We, as a team, are going to get better. It’s not on one person at all. We lost.
We lost this game together.”
Romeo Doubs makes feelings on Drake Maye clear Early in the game’s fourth quarter, Maye had a pass intended for free-agent acquisition Romeo Doubs broken up and then intercepted. Doubs was later guilty of a costly drop.
In the end, Doubs finished the game with no catches on three targets. “That had nothing to do with Drake. That was 150 percent on me,” Doubs said about his rough outing.
“I have the utmost confidence in him. I know what he can do. I’ve watched what he’s done in this league a long time, and like I say, this doesn’t define him. It’s just this league. It’s always a pendulum in this league and, you know, just demoralize it all for myself.
I’ll just be better moving forward.”
Maye finished second in 2025 MVP voting behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Thus, it’s understandable that Doubs and other New England players are confident Maye will positively bounce back from the events of Wednesday night.
The Patriots will now start preparing for a Week 2 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 20. Pittsburgh opens its season with a home game versus the Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday afternoon.
