With just two weeks remaining until the regular season gets underway, rising NFL wideout Kayshon Boutte is being shipped off to a new home. The news came on Monday that the Patriots have traded Boutte to the Houston Texans in a significant preseason move. In exchange, New England will receive safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick, according to The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero. Further reports from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network indicate the pick will be in the 2028 seventh round. Boutte, who enters his fourth season in the league, has had two breakout seasons with the Patriots over the past two years. In 2025, Boutte hauled in 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high six touchdowns last season while taking 67 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. In 2024, Boutte had a career-high 589 receiving yards while also adding three touchdowns.
He’s entering the final season on his rookie contract. Reed, meanwhile, started one game and played in seven total games, with his season being bookended by separate injuries. He recorded 14 tackles and one fumble recovery last season. He played just 73 defensive snaps, while also taking 113 snaps on special teams.
He joins a depth chart for the Patriots that is mostly solidified at the top, but given his success in limited playing time last year, he might find a way to make his way onto the field this year.
