Simone Padoin has announced that he will leave Cagliari, despite claiming that he wanted to stay in Sardinia.
The 35-year-old will be released at the end of the month, when his contract expires, after 101 appearances and three successful relegation battles in Serie A.
He took to Instagram to thank the club and fans, while admitting he wanted to ‘continue this journey for as long as possible’.
Padoin joined the Isolani in 2016 after four-and-a-half years at Juventus, where he lifted five Scudetti, two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa.
The versatile midfielder is the second veteran to leave Cagliari this summer after Darijo Srna, who retired to take up a coaching role at Shakhtar Donetsk.
