Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is rarely seen without his trademark black leather jacket.
He has maintained this signature look for nearly two decades. Whether at product launches, company events, or major technology conferences, Huang’s Tom Ford leather jackets have become synonymous with his public image. One of those iconic jackets went under the hammer at Sotheby’s, attracting intense interest from collectors.
After 65 bids, Huang’s pre-owned and personally signed Tom Ford leather jacket sold for $960,000 on Friday. The price was 16 times higher than the estimated value of Sotheby’s pre-auction of $40,000 to $60,000.
The Jacket has been photo matched by PSA to Jensen Huang, co-founder and chief executive officer of Nvidia Corp., during the Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 18, 2023. The signature has been authenticated by James Spence Authentication. “The response to this sale surpassed even our highest expectations,” Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles Brahm Wachter said in a statement. At least 45 collectors bid on the Tom Ford jacket, with Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectibles Brahm Wachter calling it “an object so closely tied to one of the defining figures of the AI era
“This auction item is a philanthropic initiative organised by Long Journey Ventures to benefit the Edge Institute, a non-profit that convenes people working at the frontiers of tech, science, culture, and society in popup villages (Edge Cities) to live together and experiment towards a brighter future.
The proceeds will fund fellowships, grants, and residencies for the next generation of young builders to pursue their passions and projects, supporting them to find their higher purpose,” Sotheby’s added. Other CEOs have noticed his style, too. In 2024, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg famously traded garments with Huang in a pro sports-style ‘jersey swap.’ Later that year, on stage at a computer graphics conference, Huang gave Zuckerberg one of his jackets that he had been wearing that day. “This is worth more because it’s used,” Zuckerberg said.
