Fabio Borini could be headed for Newcastle United or Bordeaux as Milan look to shift his €2.5m salary.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, Borini has no place in Marco Giampaolo’s plans for Milan.

The 28-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Sunderland in 2017 and has gone on to play 73 times for the club, with his loan becoming permanent for €5.5m last summer.

Despite being an attacker, he has scored just eight goals in his two seasons at San Siro and was even tried out at full-back by Gennaro Gattuso.

Schira adds Newcastle and Bordeaux are among the first clubs to make enquiries for the Euro 2012 runner-up but warns his €2.5m salary after tax is an ‘obstacle’.

Newcastle are in the market for firepower after losing Ayoze Perez to Leicester City, while Bordeaux recently returned Yann Karamoh to Inter.
