NFL roster cutdown day was Sunday, where teams in the league needed to get their rosters down to 53 players. For Michigan State football alumni, there was a mix of both good and bad news on roster spots. Nick Samac was a former Spartan that received the news that he did not make a 53-man roster out of camp when the Carolina Panthers waived him.

Fortunately for Samac, his chances of finding a roster spot in 2026 just rose exponentially. The Minnesota Vikings have claimed Samac off of waivers. The former Spartan will now aim to get a spot with the Vikings offensive line. Samac, a seventh round pick in 2024, spent the first year and a half of his career with the Baltimore Ravens before latching on with the Carolina Panthers for the back half of 2025. He has made an appearance in 11 career games.
