Stephen A.: AD is all in on a title after waiving $4M trade kicker (1:25)
Stephen A. Smith says Anthony Davis’ decision to waive his $4M trade bonus is an act of unselfishness and shows he’s committed to helping the Lakers win a title. (1:25)
LeBron James is giving up his uniform number, 23, to new Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Davis has worn No. 23 for seven years as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.
A source close to James told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that they believe the Lakers star will go back to No. 6, which he previously wore with the Miami Heat. He wore No. 23 during both of his stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and last year in Los Angeles.
Pictures from the set of “Space Jam 2” have shown James, who is starring in the sequel, wearing a No. 6 jersey.
Yahoo! Sports was first to report the move.
The trade for Davis, which now includes the Washington Wizards, will be official on July 6.
