A baffled mum was stunned when CCTV outside her home captured a bizarre creature that looked just like Dobby from the Harry Potter movies strolling past her back door.

American Vivian Gomez was checking out the security cameras that monitor her driveway when she spotted something very strange skipping around outside her home, The Sun reports.

However, some believe it could all be a big hoax and point to a mystery “second” shadow on the footage.

Stunned, Ms Gomez shared the clip on Facebook and wrote: “So I woke up Sunday morning and saw this on my camera and am trying to figure it out.

“First I saw the shadow walking from my front door then I saw this thing … has anyone else seen this on their cameras.

“The other two cameras didn’t pick it up for some reason.”

The bizarre clip appears to show a small figure with skinny legs and large ears strolling down her path while doing a little jig.

Whatever the explanation, many Potter fans were eager to celebrate a possible return of Dobby, as the beloved character tragically died in the sixth film Deathly Hallows.

Maury Wills wrote on Facebook: “Dobby came to make sure you are safe!”

One Twitter user then added: “Everyone’s joking that this is Dobby but I’m here deciding not to go outside at night ever again.”

However, some eagle-eyed Twitter users point out at one stage in the video there appears to be two shadows, theorising someone could be operating an elflike puppet.

Reactions to Dobby’s death were so emotional, writer J.K. Rowling was moved to apologise on Twitter in 2018 for killing off the “free” elf.

“This year, I apologise for killing someone who didn’t die during the #BattleofHogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who’d win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf,” she wrote.
