The New Orleans Saints are trading former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jones, a former second-round pick who spent his first six NFL seasons in Atlanta, signed with the Saints a little over two weeks ago. After playing in the preseason and joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams, Jones now heads to San Francisco where he will reunite with former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
“Trade: the Saints are sending veteran LB Deion Jones to San Francisco in exchange for RB Zamir White, per sources,” Schefter reported on Sunday night. “Former Falcons LB Deion Jones reunites with 49ers DC Raheem Morris, and Saints get RB depth with Alvin Kamara dealing with a knee injury.”
Jones was a dynamic linebacker for the Falcons early in his career, helping the team reach the Super Bowl in his rookie season. He excelled in pass coverage and made a Pro Bowl during his second NFL season in 2017. During his six seasons in Atlanta, Jones recorded 652 tackles (428 solo), 11 interceptions, 8.5 sacks and 44 passes defended.
He should be a good depth addition for Morris’ defense.
