Major League Baseball returns to Iowa on Thursday with the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins playing at the “Field of Dreams” stadium in Dyersville, the third time big-leaguers have been showcased at the site made famous by the 1989 Kevin Costner film.
“These games are fun for me,” Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said. “It’s somewhere different. It’s something that you remember more vividly than you would just another game somewhere else.”
The Field of Dreams Game was last played in 2022, the second year in a row the made-for-TV contest was held after huge success and a thrilling New York Yankees-Chicago White Sox game in 2021. More than 25 Baseball Hall of Famers will be on hand for the event with the legends and current players expected to walk through the corn fields and emerge onto the field. “It’s going to be awesome,” said Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber. “I’ve never been out there before, so I’m excited to see the corn, see the field they actually filmed it at.
Just to be in that atmosphere.”

The Iowa guys Derek Hill grew up in Des Moines, went to Dowling Catholic and moved to California midway through his sophomore year to get better competition. Thursday, he returned to Iowa as a big leaguer. He is the first Iowa-born player to play in the Field of Dream game. Bruce Dreckman, the home plate umpire, is also an Iowa native. Marsh reaches a record in the corn field Brandon Marsh has never hit 17 home runs in a season before.
Thursday night, his seventh inning shot into the corn was his career-high 17th. The two-run shot pushed him past the 16 he hit in 2024 and turned a game into a route. The Phillies took a 7-1 lead on that home run. Marsh has reached base in all four of his at-bats so far, going 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and two RBI. Nola picks the right night Aaron Nola is done after five innings. He allowed one earned run, a home run. He gave up five hits and three bases on balls.
He struck out a season-high nine . Nola went into the game 3-9 with a 5.47 ERA.
Philadelphia has to be hoping this is a night he can build on down the stretch. One a special night, he had the most special performance of the season so far. Bradley’s night ends after four Taj Bradley was done after four innings. He allowed five runs, all earned, on seven hits and four walks. He struck out three.
He struggled against the Phillies’ left-handed-heavy lineup and the 32-pitch first inning had him trying to find his footing from the get-go. Bradley, who came into the game 9-4 with a 3.76, had been one of the Twins most reliable arms as they chase a wild card spot. Bradley left with the Twins trailing 5-1. Schwarber joins Aaron Judge Kyle Schwarber hit his second home run of the night, this one off the glove of Luke Keaschall at the right field wall. The 355-foot shot in the top of the fourth inning off Taj Bradley was his 37th of the season. The home run score Brandon Marsh. That makes Schwarber the second player to hit two home runs in a Field of Dreams game.
Aaron Judge hit a three-run shot off Lance Lynn in the third and a two-out, two-run blast off Liam Hendriks in the ninth during the 2021 game. The White Sox rallied in the bottom of the ninth with Tim Anderson homering for a 9-8 win over the Yankees. Bryce Harper singled in another run to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead. Keaschall gets one back Luke Keaschall put the Twins on the board with a home run to left field in the bottom of the second, and it landed in a good week for him.
He turns 24 on Saturday. The Phillies still led 2-1. The 23-year-old outfielder was Minnesota’s most encouraging story of 2025, hitting .302 in 49 games. This season has been harder. Rough start for Taj Bradley The Twins right-hander was on his heels from the get-go. Kyle Schwarber led off with the homer into the right-field corn. Bryson Stott singled in another run.
Bradley walked two, did not get a strikeout and needed 32 pitches to get out of the inning. Luis Arraez was the first player to forget the rules in Dyersville and signal for an ABS challenge. There is no ABS in this game because the stadium is not set up for it.
Schwarber sends one into the corn: Phillies 1, Twins 0 Kyle Schwarber led off the game and put it into the corn in right field. On the third pitch of the game from Twins right-hander Taj Bradley, Schwarber hit it 369 feet. It was his 36th homer of the season.

A source with direct knowledge told the Register that Dyersville will host for a fourth time. The teams have not been picked. That is they will host if there is a 2027 season. The collective bargaining agreement expires Dec.
