Former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi could have a new job as Italy Under-21 Coach, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
The Azzurrini are on the verge of elimination in the group phase of the European U21 Championship, having beaten Spain and Belgium 3-1, but lost 1-0 to Poland.
While they anxiously await news on whether they are the best runners-up, this performance will likely spell the end for Gigi Di Biagio.
Current Under-20 boss Paolo Nicolato is the favourite to take over, but there is another very intriguing alternative.
The Corriere dello Sport newspaper claims that De Rossi will be offered the role of Italy Under-21 tactician.
His contract with Roma expires on June 30 and he’ll be a free agent, considering offers from Boca Juniors, MLS and more.
However, De Rossi could remain in Italy with a new role as Coach of the Azzurrini.
Daniele would be following in the footsteps of his father, Alberto, who has for many years been the Coach of the Roma youth team.
He’d also get to work closely with senior Italy boss Roberto Mancini.
