The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that they’ve waived veteran cornerback Mekhi Blackmon. To bolster their cornerback depth, the team signed Kenneth Harris. The Colts acquired Blackmon in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings prior to the 2025 season. He would go on to appear in 17 games, making 11 starts, while playing over 700 defensive snaps. Why did the Colts release CB Mekhi Blackmon?
Blackmon struggled during the Colts’ two preseason games. Over 32 coverage snaps, he allowed six receptions on seven targets for 74 yards. He had no ball production and was penalized four times as well.
While the Colts could have a top starting cornerback unit in football this season, the depth of this room has been exposed a bit during the preseason. Harris went undrafted this past April out of Oklahoma State.
He played in the first two preseason games with the New England Patriots.
