A trainer aircraft operated by private aviation academy Carver Aviation veered off the runway during a training exercise at the Baramati airstrip in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place around 12.30 pm. The aircraft had a pilot and a cadet on board. No injuries were reported. Baramati runway incident: What happened? The VT-SEX aircraft was conducting a circuit and landing emergencies exercise when it could not stop at the designated point while taxiing on the runway, according to police. The aircraft initially lined up at the threshold of Runway 29 and carried out a rejected take-off.
It was then lined up at the threshold of Runway 11, where another rejected take-off was conducted. During the exercise, the aircraft continued beyond the runway threshold and travelled around 20 feet into the grassy area. Police said it then moved to the right side beyond the Runway 29 threshold after leaving the extended paved surface. Baramati past aircraft incidents
The incident comes months after a private charter aircraft crashed near the Baramati airstrip on January 28. The aircraft was carrying then Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others. All five people on board were killed. In another incident on May 13, a trainer aircraft operated by a different private aviation company crash-landed near the Baramati airstrip after developing a technical problem.
