Asthma risk warning over pollen count – The Times

People with asthma are at risk of potentially fatal attacks as the pollen count rises this weekend, a charity has warned.

The Asthma Society of Ireland (ASI) said the pollen count for all four provinces would be “very high” according to its readings around the country. It said those with asthma or at risk of severe hay fever should keep their bedroom windows shut at night. They should stay away from grassy areas and wear sunglasses outside.

There are 301,000 people living with asthma in Ireland, and managing symptoms becomes more challenging during the summer. Sarah O’Connor, ASI chief executive, said hay fever symptoms can escalate an asthma attack, which in some cases can be fatal.
