The Dallas Cowboys versus the New York Giants and an intra-division game that will set the tone for the start of the season. The Cowboys will need to play to their strengths, and limit their weaknesses to keep the good vibes going from the offseason. Here are two plyers who should excel in this game, and two who may have a struggle on their hands. Buy – QB Dak Prescott
How could this list start with anybody else?
Prescott has played an entire season’s worth of games against the Giants in his career. In those 17 games, Prescott has a passer rating of 101.5 with 4,346 yards, 31 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Prescott is 14-3 against the Giants in his career and, at one point, before getting pulled early last year against New York in Week 18, had won 14 straight games against his divisional foe. 14 wins spanning various coaching staffs, new players and new front offices, Prescott has beaten them all, so even with a lot of new faces in the Meadowlands this year, look for Prescott’s dominance to continue as he continues to helm one of the league’s best offenses. Sell – ILB DeMarvion Overshown
This isn’t as much an indictment of Overshown’s ability as it is an understanding of what the Giants and some of their players can bring to the table.
Last season, the Cowboys linebacker struggled mightily in space, against every team, really. Now with Jaxson Dart as the starter, be prepared for the Cowboys’ linebackers to be put in frequent conflict with Dart’s ability to scramble.
Overshown, recovering from another knee injury, will have to show he can hold his own against the likes of Dart, Cam Skattebo, Isiah Likely, and all the receivers the Giants will flood the middle of the defense with. Buy – RB Javonte Williams
The Giants had one of the worst run defenses last season, ranking 31 out of 32 teams in the league. In 2026, even with a lot of players added to this defense, the most notable departure was New York sending DT Dexter Lawrence to Cincinnati. Williams averaged 5.4 yards per carry last year in 18 carries against this team. Even without Tyler Smith at LG, look for a healthy number of carries for Williams and for the second-year Cowboy to continue his efficiency against a shaky interior defensive line. Sell – Whoever plays right tackle
Terence Steele’s struggles last season are nothing new to Cowboys fans.
As it stands, he is going to be the Week 1 starter at RT. What is new is that the RT situation has deteriorated to the point where the Cowboys felt it necessary to bring in another struggling tackle, Broderick Jones, to compete for the job. A more ominous indictment of a positional assessment might not currently exist in the NFL. Steele will have to face the likes of Abdul Carter, Brian Burns and Kavon Thibodeaux- not an inspiring trial by fire. Even so, if Dak and the offense manage his liability, they could overcome the deficiencies at that position.
