Alex Iwobi was instrumental to Everton’s fifth win in the Premier League as they narrowly defeated Fulham by 3-2 at Craven Cottage.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated the first half but had to defend in most parts of the second period to secure the victory.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a goal right in the first minute before Bobby Reid equalized for the Cottagers.

Iwobi was involved in the build-up as Calvert-Lewin put the Toffees’ back in front in the 29th-minute courtesy of an assist from Lucas Digne.

Abdoulaye Doucoure grabbed the third to make it 3-1 as he doubled the advantage for Merseysiders before Ruben Loftus-Cheek put Fulham back on track making it 3-2 as there were no further goals.

Ancelotti adopted the 3-5-2 formation and Iwobi was playing as a right-back and getting covered by center-half Ben Godfrey.

The Nigerian international won some balls and made a few interceptions especially when Fulham were in control of the game in the second half.

Iwobi has never been played as a right-back in his career but has played as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.

Injury to club captain Seamus Coleman made Ancelotti take the gamble to field Iwobi in a right-back position and it paid off.

Meanwhile, Bioreports had earlier reported that Gerard Moreno’s second-half penalty was all Villarreal needed to deny Real Madrid maximum points in their Spanish League encounter.

The 28-year-old superbly converted the spot-kick in the 76th minute after Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze was fouled by Thibaut Courtois.

He made a run into Los Blancos danger zone in a bit to connect with a pass from his teammate but an attempt to save the ball boomeranged for the Belgian goalkeeper.

Bioreports also reported that Nigerian star John Obi Mikel appears to have sealed his place in the Stoke City team a few months after joining them.

Despite creating just one assist in 11 appearances for The Potters since he joined then in the summer, Michael O’Neill believes his presence in the team has made them stronger.

So far, the club has kept five clean sheets that the 33-year-old featured in and that has been attributed to the inclusion of the former Super Eagles captain in the team.
