The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the federal government is responsible for the spike in the second wave of coronavirus in Nigeria.

The PDP made the accusation in a statement signed by its spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan, and seen by Bioreports on Wednesday, January 13.

The party flayed the government for not being proactive in checking the spate of the second wave of the pandemic, saying the government’s inactiveness has led to escalating infections and deaths across the country.

Part of the statement read:

“It is indeed the height of leadership failure that the federal government has not been able to take a decision on the type and quantity of vaccines expected as well as ancillary facilities and associated logistics.”

Meanwhile, the federal government has said there will be repercussions for Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and government officials who flout travel protocols as Nigeria battles the second wave of coronavirus.

The warning was issued by the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, who declared that the authorities will clamp down on officials for failing to obey travel protocols including undergoing compulsory COVID-19 tests after returning to the country.

On his part, ace Nigerian comedian Ali Baba took to social media to advise people to adhere to safety guidelines against the deadly coronavirus after recently surviving the disease.

In a video on his Instagram page, the comedian said people died in the isolation centre he was taken to after he contracted COVID-19.

According to him, anyone who says coronavirus is not real should not be trusted, adding that the virus is real and killing people in droves.
