Two teenage brothers who were allegedly murdered by their mother and uncle died in hospital within 12 minutes of each other, an inquest has heard.

Blake Barrass, 14, and his brother Tristan, 13, were found dead at a house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on the morning of May 24.

Post-mortem examinations have been carried out on the brothers but the results were not given at today’s hearing.

The brief hearing was held at Sheffield Coroners’ Court.

The boys’ mother, Sarah Barrass, 34, has been charged with murder and will stand trial in November this year. Their uncle, Brandon Machin, 37, has also been charged with two counts of murder

Coroner Christopher Dorries offered his condolences to the boys’ family but said the bodies couldn’t yet be released for funeral arrangements.

The boys were taken to hospital on May 24. Tristan Barrass was pronounced dead at 9.14am and Blake Barrass died 12 minutes later.

As well as the murder charges Barrass is charged with three counts of attempted murder on other children.

The boys’ uncle, Brandon Machin, 37, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Both are remanded in custody.  

Tristan appeared on a BBC series called ‘Our School’ in 2017 in which he was filmed in class with his dyed hair. 

He revealed he had chosen to dye his hair yellow to help raise cash for a friend with bone cancer.
