Battery maker Exide Technologies LLC beat back a challenge to its bankruptcy plan from California regulators, providing some funding for cleaning up a polluted site near Los Angeles but clearing the company of further responsibility.
A bankruptcy judge said Friday he would confirm Exide’s chapter 11 plan, allowing the company to walk away from contaminated sites in 10 states, including a former battery-recycling plant in Vernon, Calif., that contains lead and arsenic contamination.
