Atalanta make €40m from Europe

Atalanta will pocket at least €40m from their first ever Champions League campaign after booking their place in the Round of 16.

The Bergamo minnows have one of the lowest salary bills in Serie A, but finished third last season and have made it through the group stage in Europe’s premier competition.

According to Calcio e Finanza calculations, Atalanta will earn €40m from their Champions League experience.

They were already guaranteed €23.6m just by entering the group stage.

In six games, their results earned another €6.3m in bonuses (€2.7m for victories over Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk, plus €900,000 for the draw with Manchester City).

There is another bonus of €9.5m for reaching the Round of 16.

This all adds up to €39.4m, but does not take into account the money they will pick up from the two knockout matches.

As Inter went out, Atalanta will have a larger share of the market pool, somewhere between €5m and €7.4m.

There are also the ticket receipts from the home games at San Siro, which in the group phase saw them amass €3.4m from three games.
