Zulum resettles 1000 IDPs in Baga

DESPITE the Friday attack on his convoy, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum carried out his relocation plans as over 1000 IDPs were relocated in Baga town.

Zulum who spent two nights in the embattled town supervised the resettlement of the returnees back to their ancestral homes and presented each household with N10,000 each and a bag of rice to start up their lives.

The governor advised the returnees to be law-abiding and to give support and cooperate with security operatives in other to enjoy protection and safety.

He assured them that the government would not abandon them abut would continue to ensure that they are well-protected.

He explained that the N10,000 given to them as well as the bag of rice, maize, beans and 3 litres of oil, were all short term relief to enable them to have an easy start on life”.

Zulum, who joined the convoy to return to Maiduguri at the weekend, was allegedly attacked by the insurgents on his way back.

But an investigation by our correspondent revealed that security agents only fired warning shots at suspicious.

“To the best of my knowledge, what happened on our return from Baga was not a fresh attack on the convoy. It was the security operatives who fired warning shots at some locations they suspected the bad boys were hiding. The shots were apparently to scare them (bad boys). To the best of my knowledge, there was no exchange of gunfire.”
