A group under Osumenyi Youth Council of Anambra State Association of Town Unions has said it is ready to help fight COVID-19 spread in rural areas of the state after distributing face masks in Osumenyi.

Speaking during a coronavirus awareness campaign event and distribution of the face masks, the President of the body, Dr. Charles Ebulue, said the group would help change the minds of rural dwellers about the killer disease.

Ebulue said: “We have used the opportunity to distribute over 15,000 special face masks to our people as a preventative measure against the dreaded virus.

“A lot of people have been misinformed that the pandemic is not real. But as a medical doctor I know it is real.”

He lamented that Boys High School, Osumenyi, and Girls Secondary School, Osumenyi, had been running without science laboratories.

According to him, the situation has seriously affected science students in the two schools.

He said the schools lack other important facilities to boost teaching and learning.

The group called on Governor Willie Obiano to assist the schools.

Ebulue said: “There are no laboratories or science equipment in the two schools. No physics or chemistry laboratories. There is no way in this 21st century you will talk about progress in the world without science.”
