Timu Ya Wananchi got the winning goals from their new signings in a match that was meant to gauge their readiness for the next assignment

Young Africans (Yanga SC) defeated Mlandege FC 2-0 in a friendly match on Wednesday in preparation for the Saturday league tie against Kagera Sugar.

The two goals were scored by the new signings Waziri Junior and Mukoko Tonombe in a match coach Zlatko Krmpotic was gauging the preparedness of his side that somewhat struggled against Mbeya City on Sunday.

Junior found the back of the net in the 40th minute from the spot to give Yanga the lead at Chamazi Complex before Tonombe – who has impressed the fans so far in the matches he has played – added the second goal in the 57th minute.

Timu Ya Wananchi will play their first away league game against the Sugar Millers having drawn 1-1 against Tanzania Prisons before fighting hard to win the subsequent game 1-0 against Mbeya City.

In another friendly match, Azam FC were defeated 2-1 by the First Division side Transit Camp.

Meanwhile, Former Tanzania and Yanga defender Bakari Malima has asked Krmpotic to keep fielding Lamine Moro and Bakari Mwamnyeto at the heart of his defence.

“I can remember [Bakari] Mwamnyeto and Abdalla Shaibu played together during the Wananchi Day against Aigle Noir and were partnered again during the opening match against Tanzania Prisons,” Malima told Mwanaspoti.

“[Lamine] Moro was introduced when Yanga were playing Mbeya City. If you look at the Mwamnyeto-Shaibu and Mwamnyeto-Moro combination, the latter was firmer. Mwamnyeto is the best signing Yanga did in the transfer window and he is the kind of a defender Yanga have needed for a very long time.

“If he continues to play with Moro then that defence is going to be very firm indeed. They are good defenders and seem to be enjoying a close understanding of each other and a great sense of communication. This will help them avoid confusion while on the pitch.

“Fans can now have hope Yanga are going to win several league matches but again the team has not gelled well to the level that is required.

“It is a team that is undergoing a rebuilding process as you can remember the coach came just before the league started.

“People will start feeling how hot Yanga really are maybe from the ninth or 10th game.”

In the game against Mlandege, Shaibu and Juma Makapu started at the back.
