A 25-year-old Bethlehem woman was charged after she pulled down her protective mask early Thursday morning outside her home, lunged at an officer and coughed four times in his face, city police report. The initial call at 12:41 a.m. to 335 E. Ettwein St. was to remove a man who Alexandra Nicole Detrick said was infected by the coronavirus , police said.Detrick, who was wearing a medical mask and “appeared to be highly intoxicated and had .. slurred speech,” met officers outside the home, police said. She removed her mask and asked officers to do the same, police said.“Detrick became upset due to our response to the incident,” police said in court papers. “She turned her body toward (the officer) then lunged at the officer, deliberately coughing approximately four times in his face.” Detrick’s unlawful actions “possibly” exposed “the victim to COVID-19,” the disease that comes from the coronavirus, police said. While in the police intake, officers could “smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from Detrick, police said. She agreed to a preliminary breath test and her blood alcohol content was 0.226, nearly three times the level, for example, where drivers begin to face penalties. She was arraigned before District Judge Robert Weber on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, court papers say. She was housed in lieu of $50,000 bail in Northampton County Prison, court papers say. She remained jailed just before noon on Thursday. A 10% option was allowed on her bail if recommended by PreTrial Services. Her preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled 9 a.m. Monday in District Judge Roy Manwaring II’s court in Bethlehem.Court papers did not list an attorney for Detrick.Tell us your coronavirus stories, whether it’s a news tip, a topic you want us to cover, or a personal story you want to share.Tony Rhodin may be reached at arhodin@lehighvalleylive.com.
