Former governor of old Kano State, Retired Colonel Sani Bello, said he has decided to give up normal birthday for medical outreaches to put smiles on the faces of the less-privileged.

Bello said celebrating his birthday with the crème of the society will not bring him much joy like celebrating with the less-privileged.

Bello stated this in Kontagora after a visit to the surgical theatre at the General Hospital, Kontagora, where operations were being carried out on beneficiaries of the free surgical outreach being sponsored by him to commemorate his 78th birthday.

The former Nigerian High Commissioner to Zimbabwe said, “It is my passion to give to the less-privileged. If I had a party, it will only be attended by the crème of society but I have decided to give this birthday party to all the people in my locality.”

“This is one of the most prominent medical outreaches because it coincides with my birthday. That is why it is special. It is my way of thanking God for sparing my life long enough to witness this year.”

Sani Bello, who is the father of the current Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, gave free surgeries to over 300 people suffering from goitre, lumps, hydrocoele, fibroid, appendicitis, hernia and eye-related diseases such as cataract at the General Hospital in Kontagora.

He expressed joy at been able to provide treatment to hundreds of people who otherwise would not have been able to afford it, saying the legacy he wants to leave behind is a legacy of service to the community and humanity.

At 78, the retired soldier said God has blessed him with everything he needs, adding that he does not suffer from any of the ailments that affect the old.
