1. Former chief of army staff joins APC ahead of 2023
Nigeria’s former chief of army staff Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd) on Tuesday, February 16 officially defected to the country’s governing party – All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ihejirika was Nigeria’s army chief between 2010 to 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He announced his decision to join the APC at his Isuikwuato country home in Abia-North senatorial district.
2. 2023: PDP finally speaks on alleged plans to adopt Atiku as presidential candidate, sack national chairman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed media reports claiming it is planning to return Nigeria’s former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential candidate in 2023.
The party’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said on Wednesday, February 17, that the party does not have a presidential candidate yet as it has not sold nomination form to anybody, Daily Trust reported.
The PDP spokesperson said the party is not plotting to remove its national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, as being claimed in some quarters.
3. Ex-US president Trump’s old hotel demolished 4 weeks after leaving office
These are not the best of times for immediate former American president, Donald Trump as a former aspect of his massive real estate portfolio was demolished recently.

On Wednesday, February 17, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino located in Atlantic City, New Jersey was imploded after being unused since 2014, Bioreports reported.
4. Buhari asks Senate to confirm 40-year-old Bawa as EFCC boss
Abdulrasheed Bawa has been appointed as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Bioreports gathered that the Nigerian leader asked the Senate to confirm Bawa’s appointment as the head of the anti-graft agency.
This was made known in a statement by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, and shared on the social media platform of the presidency on Tuesday, February 16.
5. Nigeria’s next war will take place in the forests, ex-military chief says
Nigeria’s immediate past chief of defence staff, Abayomi Olonisakin (rtd), has revealed that the country’s next warfare and crisis will be in the forests.
Olonisakin made the disclosure on Thursday, February 18, during his screening for an ambassadorial position at the National Assembly, Channels TV reported.
The retired military general who resigned as the chief of defence staff was nominated as a non-career Ambassador-Designate by President Muhammadu Buhari.
6. Many students kidnapped as bandits attack government college in Niger state
An undisclosed number of students have been reportedly abducted in a raid by suspected armed bandits on the Government Science College Kagara in Niger state.
Shehu Sani, a former Nigerian senator via Twitter on Wednesday, February 17, confirmed the attack on the school which is his alma mata.
The activist stated that some staff members of the institution were also abducted by armed men.
7. Herdsmen crisis: Bauchi governor makes U-turn on herders carrying AK-47, slams Akeredolu, others
Bauchi state government has put forward an explanation on the statement of Governor Bala Mohammed justifying Fulani herders carrying AK-47 for self-defence.
In a statement on Sunday, February 14, Muktar Gidado, a senior special assistant on media, said the comment of the principal was misunderstood, The Bioreports News reported.
8. Strange illness hits Benue as Ortom shuts down secondary school
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has ordered the closure of a secondary school, Vaatia College, in Makurdi, the capital of the state, following the outbreak of a strange disease.
Nigerian Tribune reports that following the shutdown, the school authority had sent a notice to parents and guardians, on Sunday, February 14, to pick up their children and wards.
