Free lunch won’t pay my mortgage! Afghanistan war hero, 31, issues scathing response to businessman who asks him to work for nothing but a slap-up meal

A war hero soldier who was left outraged when a businessman asked him to work for a ‘free lunch’ retaliated with a hilarious response.
Former Marine, Andy Grant, 31, from Bootle, Merseyside, had his right leg amputated in November 2010 after he was injured by a bomb in Afghanistan.
He now works as an inspirational speaker giving keynote speeches around the country, he was even hired by Gareth Southgate to help prepare the England football team ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Mr Grant was taken aback when he received a message on LinkedIn in which he was asked to offer his services for the ‘best lunch you’ve ever had’
So he was somewhat taken aback when he received a message from a man on LinkedIn requesting his services in exchange for ‘the best lunch you’ve ever had’.
The message said: ‘I am organising my team meeting to take place on 28th November, probably in Warrington
With mental health becoming very relevant in my family recently and the general struggles we each face, the theme of the meeting in November is; overcoming adversity.
‘I have been researching LinkedIn to find somebody who could give an inspirational talk.
Mr Grant replied to say: ‘If I can convince my mortgage provider to allow me to buy them lunch instead of paying my mortgage this month then I will come and speak for you’
‘It would be a real thrill if you could give a talk to the team, my only issue is payment, I’m hoping the best lunch you ever had would cover it!
‘I can certainly promote your talk to us via the […] LinkedIn page and other senior colleagues.
‘Thanks for reading.’
After deciding the only way to respond to the request was with humour, Mr Grant said: ‘I will make a deal with you.
Mr Grant told the Mirror : ‘I’ve worked really hard over the past five or six years to overcome my injuries and show people you can overcome anything’
He added: ‘To receive this message I just find it disrespectful when I am sharing my story and inspiring people’
‘If I can convince my mortgage provider to allow me to buy him/her lunch instead of paying my mortgage this month then I will come speak for you.
‘Sound fair?’
Mr Grant told the Mirror: ‘I’ve worked really hard over the past five or six years to overcome my injuries and show people you can overcome anything.
‘To receive this message I just find it disrespectful when I am sharing my story and inspiring people.’
While Mr Grant has no problem with giving free talks, and has done on numerous occasions to schools and charities, he wants to have the choice of who he does that for.
He added: ‘I try and give back as much as I can and I’ve raised £50,000 for charity over the years.’
